Why I never jumped on the Yo La Tengo bandwagon a long time ago, I have no idea. This album is a gyrating noise factory from the top of Mount Olympus. The songs are big trance-inducing affairs akin to the Velvet Underground's more persistent cuts and Sonic Youth's more accessible wall-of-sound numbers. (Double Dare from Painful sounds like a scaled back version of something that could have appeared on Sonic Youth's Goo.)
I highly, highly recommend checking this album out. If anyone has other recommendations along the noise rock/shoegaze vein, please leave comments. Love to hear about music I'm ignorant to.
